Is it normal to not care about politics?

I never really got into it. Just seems pointless it's the same stuff every week. Just constant jabbing back and fourth between parties. I do enjoy satirical shows like the Daily Show and the Colbert Report but thats because they typically make fun of politics. I have no party nor do I want to belong to one, is this normal?

I do enjoy the conflict of rep and dems but I just like to watch. Everybody thinks their side is right and the other side is just ignorant. Very amusing to see

  • It's understandable not to know what kind of impact you have on the political process. To get a picture, try understanding the local and state process. Quick tip, you directly elect your state senator, your congressional representatives, your mayor, your governor. You do not directly elect your president. In effect, the people you directly elect work for you. You are THEIR boss. Understanding that, you'll have more incentive to get involved in the traditional methods of political interaction and you'll look for innovative ways to do so as well.

  • I don't pay any attention to any of it and I don't vote. None of them follow through with their promises anyway.

Funny note I got from University: Hitler was one of the only politician that delivered on all of his promises. That was right before he did very horrible things but still.

    • If educated people like you don't vote and don't pay attention to the direction of the country, other people--potentially misguided people will. It'll all contribute to the shifting of our country's future. Like it or not, whether things happen as politicians say it will, what the government does and says will have a direct impact on your life, your family's life, and the rest of your posterity. I would be at least somewhat aware to be able to safeguard your own future.

  • It's ok not to care about politics. There are many things that the hidden powers of America hold that we have no control over, no matter how much we would like to have control.

America was not made for the Black citizen to reside peacefully anyway so... don't really care

  • Well unfortunatly its the norm and thats why our country is so fucked up because people don't pay attention to whats really going on. REP and DEM are the same people behind the seens they put up a little front on tv and once the cameras off they shake hands slap each other on the back, etc. Its like pro wrestling.

Because no one looks for other cantidates outside of REP and DEM we can never get anything done that because they are both the same. Obama for instance "NO NEW WARS!" invades libya w/o congressional approval I might add. Its the same as bush see what Im saying?

Its lazy people that don't care that get pushed into tyranny. Look at the Nazi's in Germany they were only a minority. BUT THEY WERE THE ONES THAT WERE THE MOST VOCAL. Since it was the only thing anybody heard they all voted hitler and all the nazis into the parlimant and then BOOM full totalitarian tyranny! Right under the peoples noses.

    • Don't fanatics like you ever get tired of screaming about how the Nazis are hiding under our bed and are coming for us?

The Nazis have passed and Hitler is gone. Let it go, weirdo.

  • Meh. Feel free not to give a shit, but just don't complain if something happens in politics that you don't like, and you didn't vote when you had a chance to try and stop it. At least vote for a minor party if you don't believe in one of the major ones (Repubicans and Democrats, presuming you are in the US).

Remember also that thousands have fought and died for your chance to care about politics. You have a lot more freedom to choose what happens in government than ever before. If you choose not to use what power you have, that's your desision to make. I can't force you to care.
