Is it normal to not be able to talk about my problems without crying?

I can't seem to talk about them without crying. Whenever I try to tell my parents or friends about how I'm feeling I choke up and have to pretend I'm coughing and leave because I know I'll just start to cry and not be able to tell them whats wrong. I know I need to see a doctor or a therapist again but I don't know how I'd be able to talk to them without crying, especially if I can't even talk to my parents. When I cry I can barely talk at all.. Anyone else have trouble with this? Also any tips? thanks :)

  • The internet is a great place to talk about feelings if you can't do it in real life.

  • Cry, there's nothing wrong with crying.

  • Write it down.

I had one horrific year with all sorts of family deaths etc and I walked into my doctor and burst into tears. I knew I would, so I just pulled out the list of things that had happened to me that I had prepared.

Best thing I ever did coz then all I had to do was nod to his questions.

    Please try that.

  • Same problem but only with serious problems I'm facing. I just stopped talking about them irl. And as dom180 said, talking to people online really helps a lot. It's easier and seems to work better than talking to people irl about it all.

  • Yeah its normal, I find usually talking to people about it makes me feel better because I know someone else is helping to bear the burden/sympathise/maybe help with the situation =)

  • 15 years ago i saw a therapist. All i did was cry for 6 months when i had my visits. I really wasnt allowed to show emotions other than happy most of my life. It all came pouring out. He was a very understanding person. It felt so good to have someone actually listen to me, even if paying him to do so. It was the best thing i ever did.

Give it a try. That is what they are hear for. Crying is good. It tells you something is wrong.

    Peace

  • See a doctor, get some meds. Who cares if you cry when you tell the doctor what is going on, that is what he is there for, and you ate reaching out for help.

  • Perhaps, if it helps, write out a note to them about the feelings you want to express? And then talk a bit about it with them afterwards.

    Also, it's okay to cry.

  • You're sharing your emotions. I think it wouldn't be normal if you didn't cry.
