Is it normal to "not act black" ?

I was talking to my brother yesterday, when he said, " you don't act black." What is that? How do I "act black"? Now these are some stereotypes, so don't get offended, but I don't like fried chicken, watermelon, or grape soda. I don't rob people, jump people, or use slavery as an excuse for my behavior. And I'm an intelligent person. But is it normal to not "act black"?

Is It Normal?

  • There's no such thing as 'acting black'. Sure, you can apply someone to the stereotypes of acting black, but it's all made up.

  • People are colours. Pray tell, how someone can act as a colour? Categorising people in "Black and
White" and putting certain behavioural expectations on them is fucking ridiculous.

    • I say black because majority of people refer to African Americans as "black". But when I talk to another person, I use African American.

  • "Acting black" and "Acting white" are just stereotypes like you mentioned. For "acting black" most people refer to it as acting ghetto basically, depending on what tone you are, ghetto is basically for the dark skins stereotype, and for light skins, its referred as acting like you're too good, because most people go for the cute light skins. I know thats a little confusing. And "acting white" is basically being smart and independent.

  • I'm black and the advantage I have is that I live on an island where almost everyone else in black (99%), so we just live. Many times I have come across posts where blacks were complaining about being somehow rejected because they were not behaving in a "black" way.

This is absurd when we consider that we're in 2013!!!
