My great-grandmother always said it is important to wash behind your ears. I actually called her Nanny.
In Britain, Ireland, United States, Australia, New Zealand and, particularly prevalent in Newfoundland and Labrador, Nan, Nana, Nanan, Nannan, Nanna, Nada, Nanny, Gran and Granny and other variations are often used for grandmother in both writing and speech.
Once when when I was in my mid-thirties this interesting thing happened. I was driving down the road, I came to a stop light, then I look at the car to the left of me, the window rolls down and this teenage boy asks me if I wanna race. It was cute. I was flattered. Good times.

And behind-ear cleanliness is a particularly prevalent issue with nanas in the Anglophone countries! Both mine were certainly enthusiastic.

Wow! Your great grandmother was born in 1884! Thanks for sharing!
I love my Nanny, that woman was a saint! She lived to be 98. It's been almost 35 years since I lost her, but I still miss her.
