I can't sleep without listening to audiobooks, even with medication. For me, in the silence, my thoughts race. Audiobooks give me something to lazily concentrate on, something for my mind to follow instead of filling up with thoughts that keep me awake.
My dreams are subject to outside influence and can create a lot of confusion if not chosen carefully. The noise doesn't help me turn my brain off. Since I grew up with it always in the background, I had to learn to tune it out. Sometimes it may look like I'm watching TV, but my head will be a million miles away. And generally, I don't want to distract my brain, I want to consciously slow it down. It takes practice and a good unplugging.
Is it normal to NEVER turn my TV off?
