It is normal. If your situation was like mine, where you had many crushes but never the guts to ask, the simple answer is to not give a damn.
You should care about who you date, obviously but having the mindset that you either do or die is wrong because then you lack the confident mindset women want to see when they have men trying to pick them up.
Personally, I got lucky and had an attractive woman who lives near me come on to me out of the blue and we've been dating ever since.
It is possible for things like this to happen, but the main thing I learned from the experience is that it was simply luck and nothing more.
Try just going up to women in bars and talking to them. Understanding the basic art of talking to women and maintaining a proper posture is something that eludes most guys and is abused by many of the ones who it doesn't.
I also found out later after I had been dating my girl for a while that there were several girls who had crushes on me but were waiting for me to make a move. The same probably is true for you, as well. Go for it!
