Is it normal to move out

I just wanted to ask you guys for some advice, I want to move out of my parents house soon and get my own place with my friend, we are going to get an apartment and split it down the middle 50/50 for the apartment. My dad just talked to me and he thinks it is a good idea for me to stay home for a few years to gain money up and buy a house later on. I want to move out because my parents are kind of control freaks and they don't like me smoking weed too. I work at a part time job at a pizza place, but i am going to find a full time job soon. I am 18, and think I want to move out but I don't want to eat off my parents anymore, and make them put up with me for a few more year,I am also planning to go to community college in a few months. what do you think i should do?

Girl you need to move the fuck out. The sooner you move the sooner you learn about life. Life is hard on your own but the benefit is that you get to be the boss of you.

  • In my experience leaving home was a bad idea (I left at 13) and it is still just as hard now as it was then I'm now 19 ! But yoo only live once if its something yoo want too do just do it & see it as a learning experience if it fails :) x

I think you should move out and go to college to gain more independence. Your family wants you to stay that long to continue to control you. Or you could always stay in a college dorm. It's good that you already have a good job. Once you get your own place for a while, hopefully it'll be enough to prove to your parents that you can live on your own. Don't listen to them, move out and live your life!

    Good luck!

Kellstar makes some excellent points that I wish I would've seen before I moved in with my friend. She would have random people over after she got off of work from hooters and just be noisy as hell when I would have a test. Gr. I had to move though because the college I go to is far away from where my parents live.

It's totally up to you what you choose to do and seeing although we don't know you or your circumstances apart from the little you have told us it is hard to help.Your parents don't like you smoking weed at home, fair enough but if you move out you will probably smoke it more and that will cost you more.
Can you afford to pay rent and bills with the part time job you now have?
Do you know the person you are moving in with very well? Living with a friend can be fun but it can also break up friendships.
Does your friend have a steady job and can also afford the rent, bills etc?
Do you or your friend have partners? That can also cause problems, using the electricity, eating the food, having unexpected and unwanted parties etc...
Living with a friend will be expensive even if the bills and rent are split 50/50.
Your only 18 and even if your parents are 'control freaks' it will be cheaper than living by yourself.
You could always try it (short lease) and if it doesn't work out ask to move back home, which is normal as first time leavers usually end up going back home as they don't realize how hard it actually is.
    Good luck

With the weed situation I was planning on growing so it would be free, I think I can afford it on my part time job but I would be extremely poor, because I only make around 500 a week, that is another problem my friend has never had a job but he is trying to look for a high paying job but I keep telling him that it will be hard without any work experience.

  • Would going to college be an option for you? You can move out and work your way to finding a full time job while staying away from your parents.
