I met mine at work. We worked at the same company on the same team and became friends outside of work. We were both dating other people at the time but nothing serious.
He was shy, so getting to know him was a slow process. Most of the time, when we saw each other outside of work, it was in a group setting since we had a lot of mutual friends. Then one day, when everybody had planned to go tobboganing together, everyone else ended up cancelling except for me and him. We spent the entire day together just the two of us, which ended in the best snowball fight ever, and made plans to get together again.
We continued to spend time together, just the two of us. The more time we spent together, the more we wanted to see one another. We'd go on hikes, play chess, watch meteor showers, see movies, go snow-shoeing, etc. I was drawn to him because he was unlike most of the other guys my age. He never bragged about himself. He was a science-geek, atheist, interested in travelling, disliked the party-scene, informed about current events, loved animals and was a vegetarian. I found his compassion for others very appealing and he had a quirky sense of humour.
We lived together for a few years and then we got married.
