Having done it myself (numerous times), you want to go somewhere public with them for at least the first couple of times.
Meet somewhere busy and in broad daylight, and keep meeting in busy places until you get to know them. Anyone not meeting you for the right reasons will get bored of that, and will stop contacting you before they can do anything... untoward.
Where are you going to meet him? You could try at a restaurant first to make you feel more comfortable. Or at a movie.
Or anywhere public.
Or if you really want to feel comfortable, you could try to get to know him a little on the phone first before you go out on a date.
i tried apps and thought i kept everything private then they somehow looked up my facebook profile and sent pictures of my little brother and me and creaped me out. it was the most eary feeling i ever felt. Moral of the story, dont trust people they can scare you or even worse hurt you.
Provide evidence for your percentage. I'm saying it's unsafe because you don't know the person you're meeting online. They might seem like a good person to lure you in. Actually, nevermind. There's no point in arguing with someone who believes humans are made up of a social order known as betas and alphas.
I know you're going to meet in the very near future, but I think talking on the phone first makes things easier. When you do meet in person, let someone know where you're going and who with, do it in a public place, and don't agree to go back to their place (or yours, or a hotel) on the first date.
Some people arrange for a friend to call them half an hour or so after the date is due to start. It's rude to take calls during a date, but you can say your mother is ill or something, and you need to take it. Depending on how things are going, you could either get good news during the call, or hear that you need to go to the hospital immediately. ;)
I met two women after connecting with them online. The first was wonderful in many ways, but problems arose after about three months, and we parted. The second is my wife and the mother of my child. We've been together for just over ten years now.
How you meet isn't that important. What happens after you meet in real life is the only thing that matters.
