    Round where I'm from, 'lover' is frequently used as per the 2nd definition, and often specifically referring to a sexual relationship. Perhaps you haven't encountered this before, but I'd be careful to make sure when correcting people that you are right.

      Meh, doesn't convince me. Words ending in 'er' like that should simply mean a person who does something, so 'lover' should be a person who loves. English language is all wrong.

        Meh, language is rarely straightforward. You can redefine the rules for yourself but kindly refrain from imposing your unique take on English upon me :P
