This is SO exciting for me! My whole life I felt I was the only one in the world who did this...For me it is the bottom of t shirts, fabric napkins, and towels. I currently have a blue hand towel that I love picking at. It doesn't run my life nor do I feel embarassed by it. Its kind of the running joke in my family (my dad has a similar texture thing). I sometimes do it so often that my hands will hurt and I have rubbed my fingers raw when I'm super stressed. The only way to describe it is like the good doctor said in an earlier post "creasing". Its very soothing for me. I never did drugs or drank so this is just my coping mechanisim. I am so glad to meet all of you!!!! :)
