Is it normal to love a pet ferret so much?

I got my first ferret for my boyfriend and myself in December. Before him I'd just had dogs, a couple cats, and random small pets. (I fancied myself a dog person) At first, I wasn't sure things would work out with Mr. Ferret. I thought it was shaping up to be another bunny debacle. Then something clicked, and I started to love the little guy. And now I really really love him. I am hands down a ferret person now. (which I didn't even think was possible) I feel like he is the best thing that's ever happened to me. I love him from his big brown nose, to his grape soda tail. I love to cuddle him and kiss his face. He makes me smile and laugh so much, he really makes life joyous. I sing him lullabies and I let him have nibbles of my dinner. He's so cuddly, loving, and playful. I would lay down my life for the little guy, and destroy anyone who would dare lay harm to him. Sometimes my love for him overwhelms me and makes me tear up. Just thinking about his eventual death makes me feel miserable. He has easily surpassed my dog and cat (who I've had for many years) as favorite pet. I don't know anyone that feels this way. I know I can never live without him...

  • its normal there happens to be a subculture of people called zoophiles they are similar to what your going through they have emotional connections that would normally happen with other people but find that they get along with animals better not saying that your the same but you just going to have to accept that that's the way things are and there's nothing wrong with it.

    • My ferret will try and hide by running in between my legs (no sexual things intended or happen) it's a bit dumb cause he's usually hiding from me, or he hides behind laundry hampers

  • I have 2 ferrets and I love them like they are my children. I, too, didn't expect to love them so much.

    • Awww, I went to school with a girl who had ferrets and I went out with a girl who had them. They're so funny. Like you, I'm a dog person. My sister became a rabbit person and I do like rabbits but it didn't quite work out for her. Ferrets are friendlier with humans. We deal with them a lot better. Same goes for dogs. I really like how much you like ferrets now. You're lucky to share you life with them. They're great!

  • We've had ferrets for years! I was against it at first but, I love them so much & when they die, I miss them! We have 3 living and the ashes of 4 that have passed on! I love everyone of them! Of course I love my dogs too!

  • Awww!! That's sweet.
They are illegal where I live because the Eco fanatics have made it so. They fear if enough escape and populate they will destroy the natural Eco system.
People do have them though. My sister-in-law will ferret sit for some friends when they go away.
I have never seen one in person but they they sure look cute.

  • Aww, I love ferrets too. I think it's hilarious when they do the "weasel war dance". I can't think of a good way to describe it better, but I'm sure you'll have seen it. That kind of arched-back jumping around when they get excited.
