  • I have the same thing, usually it's a lack of a certain vitamin and/or nutrients. You should probably see a doc

  • Depends. Do you see bald spots? If not, then it's normal. If you do, it's time to hit up a doctor and ask why. It might just be alopecia, but major hair loss is a symptom of several other conditions that could be dangerous for you.

Is it coming out in clumps or strands? For clumps, again, see a doctor. For strands, it's kind of normal, especially this time of year. Hair grows faster in the summer than the winter, so more falls out.

Did you recently have a baby? When a woman is pregnant, she makes a lot of a hormone called elastin (makes it easier for your body to stretch around the baby). The elastin makes your hair follicles stronger during the pregnancy, but when it's over, all that hair falls out. It's enough to be alarming, but it's normal (it's just the hair you were supposed to be shedding all along).

But if you haven't already, if you're worried about the rate of hair loss, you should ask your doctor first. Like I said, hair loss can be a symptom of other health issues and you want to be able to rule those out before you focus on the hair. Plus the doctor might be able to prescribe you something that works.

  • Mine was doing that an I saw a doctor who did tests, all came back fine. It was stress, I saw a shrink and changed things in my life so not so stressed. It doesn't fall out much anymore, no more clumps falling out in my hands!

  • Are you stressed? High stress often causes hair loss.

  • I'm in the same boat and I find it somewhat distressing; I doubt it grows back as fast as it falls out. A hairdresser did tell me that curly hair falls out far more than straight hair, and of course I have curly hair. It all sounds a bit doom and gloom, but I think that it might be just that.

  • I lose quite a lot of hair too, like if I brush it, there's loads that comes out on the bruch or after I shower and dry my hair with a towel, the same thing. It's sort of normal I think.

  • It's not normal. It's happening to me too. I've been to the doc and they just say it's alopecia and nothing can be done. I've tried rogain. Even used the mens version. Foc said it was ok. After one year nothing. I have a receeding hair line that gets bigger every day. I started taking vitamin b12 and a b complex. Still nothing. I hate it. I feel for you.
