Is it normal to look 18 when you're 42?

This chick I know (I'm friends with her) is 42 but looks about 18 most days or sometimes 25ish but usually late teens.

She gets IDed all the time, has had 20 year old guys hit on her, etc. She has a 7 year old son and she said a few times when she was walking around with him, she got a horrible comment once where someone said (while right behind her) "I hope that's not her son. kids shouldn't have children in high school, what white trash"

and last week while with me, out shopping, two ladies in their 50s near us said, "aww he's so cute, is he your brother?" and when she said, "no it's my son", they just laughed and walked off.

She takes it as a compliment but she says it's annoying especially when she wants to be taken seriously/as an adult.

Is this normal? She is 5'7 with a normal healthy build. No wrinkles but a third of people I see in their early 40s don't have many wrinkles anyway.

Is It Normal?

    • She's white LOL! I knew someone would suggest that! hahaha because it's so true, asians especially. I think I met someone once who was 75 years old, asian and she looked about 35 hahaha. But nope, this person is white.

      • I kind of figured that if you bothered to write a post about this, she must be white XD Cuz you see young looking Asians and black people daily. It made me think that it must REALLY suck if you're black or Asian and you look old for your age...

There was this woman in one of my university classes who everybody thought looked like 18, but she was actually thirty-something. I, however, disagreed. Maybe I'm more observant??

I think people tend to look for certain things in deciding on how old somebody must be, but everybody ages differently. For example, I think we tend to see Asians as looking young in their thirties and forties because Asians don't tend to wrinkle or discolour in blotches as badly as white people.

If you ask most Asians living in Asia, they don't see themselves as perpetually young looking. They're more in-tune with Asian aging characteristics such as sagging, lip-thinning, overall darkening, a drawn appearance, hollowed cheek bones, and the big one, nose definition. If you ever look at an Asian person over 35, you'll notice his or her nose is WAY more defined than a young Asian person who'd have little to no nostril definition.

White people scan for wrinkles mostly, and when they're not there we assume young, but if you really think about it there are probably signs cluing you in and giving you a different impression underneath. For example, I guessed my Asian professor's age right on, and I was the only one in my class to do so. She told me nobody had ever guessed her that old before XD I think I was successful because I focused on her voice, her interests, etc.

  • Not normal. I am 28, moisturize and wear spf 70 sunscreen everyday and I don't get that kind of treatment.
