Yeah masochistic. There are lots of controlled groups for this, by that I mean, there are lots of groups that will show you how to perform this safely. (with sterile syringes etc)
it is pretty common, look at all the people with multiply piercings and tattoos... they're all masochists too, even if they don't want to admit it.
