Yes, it is normal to feel that way. Personally, I like new video games and I like old video games too. Retro video games are great! You can't beat the classics, and after all, they are the ones that started everything.
If you don't know what it is already, definitely look into emulation. http://www.emuparadise.me/ is a great website for emulators and ROMs and http://www.motioninjoy.com/ is what I use as a driver for my PS3 controller so I can hook it up to my laptop and use it as a game-pad. With a little perseverance, you should be able to figure out how to get everything working like you want it and if you have any problems, the forums on those websites will help you out.
