I don't think there is anything wrong with the friendship with the sister-in-law at all. But I think it is unkind of you to think of your wife as "fat and ugly" and to be making crass comparisons with her sister.
Among the things you don't mention is that sister-in-law hasn't spent the last 10 years living with you. That is certainly one if not the main difference betwixt the two. So maybe you need to look at the unhealthy aspects of your marriage.
