I'll have to check it out. The makers of children's TV realise that the kid's parents often have to watch along too and so they slip in some elements that the adults will like. With Scooby Doo, it was thinly-veiled drug references, and with Tom and Jerry, it was just plain funny.
If you go back far enough, cartoons used to be just softened versions of adult TV. Top Cat is quite obviously The Phil Silvers Show and The Flintstones is The Honeymooners.
