It's normal to lie, but lying for a long time about something major like that is pretty crummy. You've got two options here:
1) Come clean. Some of your friends may leave you, others may laugh it off, others will need time.
2) Cover it up. Just say screw it, and get to work on remembering it differently. Eventually, you won't even be sure it's a lie, and all will be well.
I suggest #2. Coming clean is dramatic in the movies, in real life it just blows.
