Is it normal to lick germ infected areas??

This is about my 10 yr old sister. She's a little ocd, shes constantly washing her hands and using hand sanitizers. She won't eat or drink out of a plate someone just ate out of. But there are times i catch her lickin her fingers after she ran it across the table or the fridge handle. I've asked her a few times but she denies it. I know shes scared of germs, she wont get in a room if someone is sick and whatnot, so this seems strange since shes so against people not washing or cleaning after themselves.

Is It Normal?
Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

  • Most germaphobes have some sort of disgusting habit.

  • Poor thing. I know how it feels to struggle with OCD myself.
It's awful that a 10 year old should have to battle with it.
A 10 year old shouldn't be worrying about things like that.
The not eating from a plat someone else did is normal, but the licking fingers thing may suggest she could start other compulsive cleaning habits.
Someone has told her that germs are bad, so she needs help to be taught that she doesn't need to worry, before it gets too out of hand.
    Consult a Doctor for advice.
    Good luck.

  • hmmm, what makes a 10 year old afraid of germs? That isn't natural. Who taught her that germs were bad? She is going to be one sick creature if she keeps it up. But the licking could be instinctual. Most animals do this to prevent infection. That is the normal part of this whole scenario.

  • I don't really see OCD as normal, so I would say def, no.. not normal, specially since she seem to be a germaphobe.
