Is it normal to laugh to yourself?

Sometimes I will just lay in bed and think of really funny stuff and laugh my ass off. It happens a lot in school too during class I will get so distracted and think of something funny in my head (some of it is real and some i just make up) and burst out laughing its so hard to hold in sometimes! I make a weird sound and people stare at me like I'm crazy lol it happened in the library once ( but something was actually really funny then) and it was really embarrassing. Is this normal? Does this ever happen to you?

I sometimes have to hide at work because I've thought of something that has amused me to the point where tears are running down my cheeks. So... basically, yeah.

Has anybody ever found you while you were hiding/crying in the corner?

That would be awkward trying to explain that one :P

It happened yesterday. One colleague got dragged into it and we both dissolved into tears for about ten minutes. A couple of people commented but nothing bad.

One time it happened in someone's office, though, and I couldn't tell him that I was laughing at him so I had to pretend I was amused by a Family Guy poster on the wall. Not sure he believed it because I was getting to the point where I couldn't breathe. There's been a couple of times where I've had to leave the room and go into the bathroom just to laugh.

For a miserable person, I sure do laugh a lot.

  • I was in military school when i was 16. It was the first day of my english class and the teacher was a light skinned black male. He was a former soldier and he was married.

I was sitting at my desk bored as fuck and started day dreaming. I thought of something funny, and started smiling. I didn't even realize i was staring right at my teacher.

He looked at me and said "what the hell you looking at boy? The only person that ever looks at me like that is my wife!" i was kind of embarrassed lol. All my friends thought i was gay for like 2-3 weeks but it was cool lol.

But to answer your question, yes i do. All the time.

If I didn't know how to laugh at myself, I would surely have severe depression.

This happens to me all of the time. I work graveyard shifts and walk around and zone out and then I'll think of something funny that I heard on TV 4 years ago or just have a random scenario playing in my head and bust out laughing.

The kids in high school thought that I was schizophrenic.

i laughed to myself just from reading the first line of your description, because i imagined it, and i can totally relate to that lol... sometimes at school it was because someone did something funny, everyone laughed too, but i couldn't stop long after everyone else had because i keep remembering it

  • It happens to me occasionally. I get lost in my head and start laughing at something then snap back and realize people are staring at me.

Well, they may think I'm crazy but Cthulhu told me I was lucid and that's all that matters.

That's a good quality to have. It's possibly the greatest defence against any rolling mountains of shit in your life, and of course you're not reliant on other people to entertain you, you can just sit there thinking up some perfect comedy and enjoy your own imagination :) Lucky you.
