Is it normal to laugh at statements of hypothetical people's death?

Someone said the other day, "The little old lady's fallen down the stairs and died", and for some reason that was the funniest shit I've ever heard. (There was some more context, but it is pretty much irrelevant)

Is it the way she died that you thought it was funny? Or do you perhaps have a nervous laughter issue where you laugh at inappropriate things it is socially unacceptable to laugh at because of the pressure NOT to laugh (I used to have a huge problem with laughing while I was getting in trouble as a kid, and it really pissed my parents and teachers off; I didn't actually think it was funny, it was just my body's way of handling an uncomfortable situation).
