  • Cutting is hard to understand but very simple all at once. It's taking control back when a person feels overwhelmed or depressed. Anorexia and Bulimia, even drinking and drug taking are all similar examples, in the sense of wanting to control something.

    Also with cutting, the body releases endorphins when the cut occurs, which gives a "high", it can become very addictive easily.

    A tip though, if you ever feel like cutting, twang an elastic band hard against your skin, it's less harmful and is a preventative measure. Also taking a red felt pen and drawing fake cuts on your arm, to give the realisation that you've cut can work too.

    I know because I used those methods myself to stop relapsing.
