Is it normal to kneel in front of the toilet to urinate

I've always observed my dad urinating in a very strange way.
As a child I never questioned it but it recently just thought about it.
instead of simply standing or sitting he would awkwardly kneel down on the floor in front of the toilet to urinate.
The stance you'd take proposing.
I know this because he usually doesn't close the door.
Is this normal?

    Only when you're drunk and in your bathroom, because you don't want to spray all over the place. Kneeling gets your piss closer to the bowl..Other than that, no, it's not normal..

    Sometimes no matter what you do the flow is unpredictable and splatters/angles (because of the surrounding skin, particularly for uncircumcised). He might kneel to avoid a mess.
