Is it normal to hide away in room? I think I might be depressed.

  • I'm not sure why people are telling you this is normal. I've suffered with (bipolar) depression for at least 15 years; I was diagnosed 7 years ago. I spent my teens and early 20s suffering before taking action and stick to the benadryl, because it sounds far safer than smoking yourself stupid like I did. I assume you're a teen, so on some level, being isolated and sullen is normal. The fact that you are going about your other daily activities (showering, going to school, eating) is good, but without any other motivation, you're just going through the motions. The laptop and TV are stimulating, so that will contribute to any existing sleeping difficulties. Try to forgo the screens and get some exercise and sun. I obviously can't diagnose you, but I will give you this to consider. People get sad when something sad happens and that's "normal" and passes with time. People who find themselves randomly depressed, unmotivated, and isolated in a way that interferes with regular day to day activities (i.e. homework and friends) don't just get over it, because it's a chemical imbalance. Go to your regular doctor and tell him/her what's going on, and he/she should be able to help you or refer you to someone who can. I can empathize and wish you well.
