I am very similar, I too spend most of my life in my room. However, it does not depress me, I find it relaxing and even exciting since there are so many things you could do in just inside a single room. It feels homely. I don't know how normal this is, it probably isn't although I do know it is rising in drastically in places like Japan (see hikikomori). As for homework, I don't find it very motivating most of the time either. They often want you to memorize, or even just search for the answer in the textbook, instead of actually learning why something is true and how you know it works. The current school system is outdated, and for this you cannot be blamed. However it is important to get through it all anyway (or do a GED test), if you want to get a high school diploma. Do not abuse or overuse those pills, unless advised by a doctor, it could be dangerous and might even be contributing to any sort of depression you may have. Instead, seek advice from a doctor or even just buy regular sleeping pills. Although spending a lot of time alone, and not being motivated may not necessarily mean you are depressed, if you feel you have depression you should seek help from a doctor, psychologist or psychiatrist.
Is it normal to hide away in room? I think I might be depressed.
