An easy way to prove whether or not this is actually a psychic ability, rather than a hallucination, is to test it. Listen to someone's thoughts, then tell them what you heard and ask if that's what they were just thinking. Test it with multiple people. If 9 times out of 10 you're incorrect, then it's safe to assume you're imagining things.
