Is it normal to have weird dreams about my sister

I'm going to preface this with this: I've never thought about anything like this in my actual life, which is why it disturbs me so much. Nothing close to this ever happened, nor do I want it to happen.

A while ago I had a dream where I was with a girl I liked at the time and we were in bed together, and things were heating up, and suddenly out of nowhere, just before I begin the girl becomes my sister and then I jump out of bed freaking out, and then suddenly my parents walk in. It was the worst feeling I've ever felt. But instead of confusion I was struck with the though "what have I done" and I woke up with this immense sense of guilt.

Recently, (last night) I had another dream where I was meeting up with the same girl in the other dream and I was flirting with her and things were going well and then again, she turns into my sister and my mom comes in. I don't know whats up. I have other dreams about girls where my sister isn't involved but the fact that some did really disturbs me. Both dreams filled me with dread and I don't know what to do. Is there something wrong with me?

You'd likely be surprised to hear how common those sorts of dreams can be. We have little-to-no control over our dreams and over the many years spent studying dreams as well as their meanings, we've still got almost no concrete understanding behind it. Many theorise the meanings but as far as research goes, scientists still argue. At the very least though you can take solace in the fact that it's definitely a common sort of dream to have.

It's normal, or at least quite common to have weird, and disturbing dreams.

A long time ago I used to dream about my cousin, so I guess its a normal thing to happen.

I suspect that somewhere in your mind are some unresolved issues with your sister. Or a suppressed memory (perhaps you parents really did find you in bed with your sister - and you have suppressed the memory).

It's OK in either case. One of the things the mind uses dreams for is to work out issues over time. It's very common to have reoccuring "bad" dreams on an issue... I've certainly had my share.

I think you will find that in time the dreams will progress and get better in the end... and then fade away when you mentally work out whatever the actual issue is.

This process is quite normal, so relax about it.

    I wish you the best...

    • Thanks, just want to clairfy that nothing close to this ever happend, in real life or in my head. I've never had thought about my sister like that so its just freaking me out. Also shes much younger then me, and we live seperate lives. Its so out of the blue, but I guess dreams are like that sometimes.
