Is it normal to have trouble breathing in public

Whenever I walk through a crowded area (hallway, mall, room of people) alone, my heart starts beating quickly and I can't breathe. I'm not nervous around the people in particular and it can be a place I've walked through hundreds of times. It only happens when I'm by myself.
Is this normal?
