Your friend may be expressing his depression around you so you are affected by these negative emotions and it makes you feel bad and react towards that negativity. I used to have a friend that expressed he negative feelings to me, how she felt about her life(at a bad moment) and I hated she was making all the conversations about her or asking for so much intention from me but I know she needed someone to talk to because she had no one to share her feelings with. Maybe your friend has a lots of suicidal thoughts and he is sharing them with you because keeping his thoughts inside hurts him and maybe he might be hoping you will comfort him so he doesn't have to kill himself because you care.
I understand, but no matter how hard I try he says he'll do himself in. I've literally seen pictures of his methods and he's laughed it off. I'm not the best at regulating my emotions properly so I find it harder than most to show that I care.
Is it normal to have these feelings?
