Is it normal to have sleep amnesia?

Ever since I was little, I've had numerous occasions where I'd go to sleep and then later wake up in my bed, as normal, right? But then after I wake up at some point someone mentions some event or something that I completely do not remember. For example "remember, at (place) today when (insert whatever)" and I'm like, I didn't go to (place) this morning? I was sleeping? But apparently I was there, participating. Other varieties include people claiming to have had full conversations with me, seen me somewhere, etc, during the time I thought I was sleeping. These gaps in my memory can span hours. I'm assuming this is some kind of sleepwalking but I'm still kind of confused, especially since all the people who have witnessed these episodes say that I was acting completely normal and exhibiting no strange behavior. Is this normal? Does it happen to anyone else?

It's normal for some people. It's a common sleep disorder.

I 2nd pcfarm about talking to a sleep specialist on this.

Most likely nothing to worry about. They may wish to do some testing to be sure it's just the normal kind and not the kind that could develop into other issues in life.

You should talk to a sleep specialist about this, usually you don't even have to go to a special clinic, normal hospitals should have a sleeping lab

Are you an alcoholic? Some people, like alcoholics, black out when they are very intoxicated.
