Is it normal to have regular heavy periods?

The last six months or so, when I have my period, I bleed quite heavily. I pass some clots, and usually have to change my pad every couple of hours, sometimes sooner. I looked up reasons for heavy menstrual bleeding and all I could find was fibroids or endometriosis. Going by symptoms, I'm pretty sure that's not the problem. They aren't painful, not even the cramping, and they only last four days, sometimes five.

I have had trouble with anemia in the past. But I'm so confused. I'm 23, and have been menstruating since 13, and it has never been like this. Is this normal? And does anyone know what causes it?

  • I get that, but worse. I have to change every 30 minutes at most(even though I wear the super overnight pads), no cramping, no feelings of weakness, but the flow is so heavy that I really just sit there for 6 days because any sudden movement results in a change of clothes...

  • Even at an older age a woman's menstrual cycle can vary. I doubt it's much of a big deal if you aren't feeling any pain or symptoms of heavy blood loss. Contact your doctor if you're still not sure but it sounds normal enough.

  • Not on birth control, and I haven't gained any weight. I actually lost about twenty pounds in an illness almost 8 months back. And I haven't had any major diet changes. That's why I'm confused. There is nothing I can find to explain this.

  • If you have gained a significant amount of weight lately, or changed the way you eat, this could contribute.
