Is it normal to have ra this young

A few months ago I was diagnosed with RA while in the hospital, at age 19. So far this winter has been one of the more painful times of my life, seeings how I have it in all of my joints. Does anyone else have it? And if so how do you deal with it. Is it normal to question the quality of life when it will be forever painful?( would never do anything)

I have a major pain issue with my jaw that started when I was 19 ( am in my 50's now ) also arthritis in my knee for the last 10 years . I just got into a pain management class last year that has made such a huge difference in my pain levels and how I deal with my pain . Yoga , meditation and sticking to my physical therapy has helped more than I thought it would . Just keep trying different things till you find what combo works for you . U

Won't touch prednisone again unless I absolutely have too... But can't take alot of the normal pain medications due to the fact I have ulcerative colitis... And they got me hooked on dilodid unfortunately.... Thats hard to get off of, still struggling with the withdrawals from it

Yes, I have it too. I have chronic pain because of it. One thing you do NOT want to do is take opiate pain meds on a chronic basis to treat the pain. Your body will just need more and more, stronger and stronger meds as your body adjusts to them. This is what happened to me and before I knew it I was on a lot of seriously strong and heavy drugs to kill pain...but they caused a whole other world of problems. Let me tell you, withdrawal hurts a whole lot worse (I just quit taking everything cold turkey because I was lost in a fog of drugs--although I was finally out of pain). Now I control my pain through a combo of daily Subutex (still an opiate pain med but it doesn't work like traditional pain meds), prednisone, advil, and colchicine. Good luck to you, it's a long journey.

It happens, but it's rare to get it at such a young age.
