Is it normal to have painful orgasms when i am near or on my period.

Every three months, for a week before I start my period I am always super horny. My boyfriend and I try to get in as much sex as we can before my period starts, but when I orgasm it always hurts! Just horrible painful cramps. I thought sex was suppose to help with menstrual cramp pain.
