I've found that using a salicyclic acid wash with pumice stone works (I'm using Garnier Pure atm, it seems to work well), along with taking zinc and magnesium, witch hazel as a toner and calendula cream for moisturiser.
Mine flares up with stress too - only I have roseacea to boot. Hurrah.
I took accutane for 6mths when I was a teen. It was horrid, my skin kept tearing, lips were bleeding a lot of the time, sunburn was outrageous (I'm pale to begin with...extra sun sensitivity is not fun) and now when I burn, instead of it turning to tan, it turns to bruises. As I mentioned above, I also now have liver problems - and I've never been a drinker. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone - it also has other serious side effects that are too high risk, in my opinion.
