I agree that premature graying of hair is mostly caused by recessive genes, but other factors could also play a role in this.
Perhaps the poster should ask whether any of their grandparents or great-grandparents had this condition.
On a personal note; I knew a young man from high school, who went completely gray by about the age of twenty.
Sadly though, he was struck and killed by a vehicle, when crossing a road, I believe when he was twenty-one, or sometime near his twenty-first birthday, if I remember that event correctly.
Yes, it can be from other causes you are right. I just offered one possible answer to OPs issue. Like I said I dont really know that much about graying hair but I know some people have grayed very early because of it.
