Totally normal.
You can't help someone who doesn't want help & if you are really close to them it can be emotional suicide trying.
I've had to walk away from friends before & it's fucking hard.
But, just recently, somebody I distanced myself from for years rocked up on my doorstep, clean & back to their old self.
I hope you (& Bob) can be that lucky...
