I wouldn't say it's atypical.
We all like to believe that we would behave in a morally correct fashion in any situation but we're all still human. Often times, our behavior and perception can reflect our current mood and outlook on life at the time.
I, myself, feel the most charitable when I am experiencing good fortune. Say, for instance, I've received an unexpected bonus from work or a check from a rebate I forgot about. I'll be more likely to give money to charity. However, lately I have been more stingy and more financially conscious due to my recent misfortunes with my school costs. It happens and humans can be very situational beings.
