I don't think this is normal. I only have one personality with each person I meet, I'm always myself and never accommodate my character to form connections with anyone. If they don't like me for me than that's okay.
A lot of people tend to do this type of thing when they are around certain individuals, so I would say it's acceptable (at least socially), but not normal in my definition. I just tend to think this makes people fake, but that's just an opinion and shouldn't be taken to heart.
Personality comes from the Greek word persona, and persona literally means mask. Or in words you never really get to actually know someone because they are hiding behind a mask.
