Is it normal to have coffee with a hamburger?

this is something I've noticed in American movies (I'm European) and it strikes me as an odd combination.

  • I've never had a hamburger with coffee. Actually, I don't think that I've ever had a hamburger. The combination does sound fine to me. I tend to think of drinks as being very versatile.

  • I often have a coffee with my hamburger, we're quite good pals actually. We go out with our wives to restaurants but we never have burgers. You only make that mistake once

  • I've never noticed americans drinking coffee with hamburgers or beer in paper cups (though plastic cups, are common with kegs) Maybe I'm just not paying attention?

    • Hehe, I think this is the English point of view either because we only go to touristy places where people drink beer outdoors, or we're known for glassing each other and people are wise enough not to arm us.

  • Seems slightly odd to me too, although coffee with pasta seems completely normal. It's just what we're used to. I've never understood why (some) Americans drink beer out of paper cups, but it's just culture. We don't all have to act the same way.

      • Every time you tell me what you've eaten, it's something I like. I don't know if I should kidnap you as my chef, or just steal your food. :P

        • What about if I'm nomming on aeroplane food, which I will e in a couple of hours.

To be honest...aeroplane food is one of the most exciting parts of the holiday. Plastic cutlery, lemon wipes, funny tasting packaged food. SO EXCITING!

          • I've never been on an aeroplane so I don't know if the food is good or bad. But instinct tells me to let you nom it on your own. :P

  • Can't see much wrong with the combination to me. You can buy both at McDonald's, so it seems convenient. See thoroughly normal.
