My dad would spank me and my brothers but only with a open hand on the butt. The only exception was if we lied, then he would lay us out on a bed and whip the shit out of our asses. That taught me how important honesty is. And around 10 minutes after the whipping he'd come in the room and hug us, tell us how much he loves us, only wants the best for us, etc. And if it was a really bad spanking he'd give us a candy or something like that to calm us down. He was always completely composed, never angry. And all my brothers and myself are honest, productive, and have the balls to face the music. The most important thing is to be a real life example and have some common sense and your kids will make you proud and love you.
