Now days, anything that is not time out or gentle talking to is abuse. As long as the belt did not leave bruises or seriously hurt you, it is not abuse. I was spanked with a belt when I was a kid, and I am very grateful for it because there was no way in Hell I would respond to time out. Time out was fun for me, and had I not recieved a good ole fashion "whoopin'" I probably would have grown up as a problem child. There is nothing wrong with physically disiplining your child, and the belt is a good way to enforce authority. I work at a retail shop and I see kids screaming and throwing trantrums everyday and I always tell myself, "If that was me when I was a kid, that would be the end of it." Parents are too afraid to show authority to their kids these days, and that why so many of them or bratty and horrible.
I understand that some kids respond well to time out and they don't need to spanked, but that does not go for all kids as all kids are different. I think that it is normal to be hit with the belt, and you will find that most kids who grew up around your time endured the same punishment. It's just the dumb-ass crap today that tries to make everything seem abusive.
is it normal to have been hit with a belt growing up?
