is it normal to have been hit with a belt growing up?

I think that slavery has taught our ancestors that the only way to ger obedience is to hit and they still do it. Some people say that children are traumatised etc but many of us grow up to be perfectly balanced adult. Sometimes with friends we would compared the punishments we got as kids and we would have some good laughs.
