Is it normal to have an irrational fear of foods?

I have an irrational fear of certain foods. Most of it is dairy products like yogurt, cheese, or milk (I'm fine with milk in recipes like baking stuff). If I touch any of these I panic & immediately scrub my hands clean. There's also seafood & specific foods like tofu that I avoid. I can't eat any of these & if I eat them on accident I'll freak out & spit it out. Is this normal? Is it just picky eating?

  • Selective eating disorder.
I knew a fellah who had that. There was a lot of stuff he couldn't eat due to the texture.

Irrational fear is not normal by definition.

I suggest that you find a good counselor and find out what in your past created that fear; and help you to reanalyze that past event as an adult and decide what the appropriate level of caution to dairy (and other) foods are.

I wish you well with this,

Probably a picky eater. Kinda different, but if my cousin gets something like dish soap, something sticky, or slimy on her hands she has a anxiety/panic attack. I remember once she slipped on wet grass, and got mud on her hands. She pretty much had a melt down. The human mind is pretty weird. But it's normal. I hate getting tuna water on my hands. I have to wash them immediately, but I don't fear getting it on my hands. I like tuna, I just HATE my hands smelling like it.
