Is it normal to have an imaginary friend in my twenties?

Never had an imaginary friend as a child, but I started talking to myself since I was 14, but in my third year of college I created this ficitional girl to talk with, at the begining she didn't even had a name but I called her Gretel now, I was in a really bad emotional moment when I started talking to her, my therapist says it's fine, but I was curious to know if somebody else has a late imaginary friend or a similar experience.

It's the same as having an "avatar" or a "persona" on the internet. Someone that is a representation of you and your personality in some way or another. They act how you want them to and talk how you would expect, because you created them. They don't have to "be" you, but they represent you in some way.

Yeah, it's similar to have a conversation with yourself but portraying her as a different person it is for some reason easier than just keeping stuff to myself.

I have a goldfish that is real. My relationship with him is imaginary but reasonable. I sometimes tell extended family members that my goldfish sends his good wishes. They smile knowing that I am doing well adjusting to my social isolation.

When I was married, at one time we had two female beta fish that would often swim side by side. We used to joke that they were making fun of us humans and gossiping about us.

I guess it's natural to search for something to comunicate with, even when you have friends to talk to, it is easier to be honest about yourself with someone that you now it won't judge you, like a pet or an imaginary friend.

I love how Amos Sirius sounds just like a normal girl who is tired of dealing with her weird brother and dumb friend but she has no choice.

      • That’s pretty much who she was, which was why she was fun to hang around with cause she could relate to the whole /why is my family so embarrassing/
