  • Stretch marks are certainly normal, but not very common on people of a healthy weight. They seem to be hereditary and slightly more common in females than males, like cellulite. Some people hit their growth spurt during adolescence but grow so fast their skin can't keep up with their bones, and the underlying dermis tears, and you see this on the surface as purplish "striae" or stretch marks.

Stretch marks are unfortunately permanent, just like scar tissue. However, all stretch marks fade with time, and can be lessened with laser treatment and bio-oil. Make-up can also be used to hide them, if you're self-conscious about them. Because you seem to be prone, avoid rapid weight loss or weight gain, as you could easily get many more new purple ones.
