Yeah I've had strange dreams like that. It can be unsettling what your mind presents to itself when asleep - what your imagination can torture you with.
You just have to remind yourself that it is just in your head. It's a sad story you invented when you were asleep. There was no chick. Why not re-imagine the story with a happy ending? Where you managed to stop the chick from being hurt and it grows up to be a big fat chicken, clucking, pecking at the ground happily :)
Is it normal to have a dream like this?
