I would recommend you ask yourself these questions: Why would I choose someone I like over someone I love? Why can I not break up with my current boyfriend?
If you don't want to break up with your current boyfriend due to a sense of responsibility because of what he has done for you, then your kindness is misplaced and you should realize that if he saved you and helped you in the past, it wasn't for you to be with him, but because he wanted to, out of the kindness of his heart.
Lastly, if it has only been a week that you've talked to this other person, make sure not to jump the gun... he may not be as worth it as you think. Talk it out with someone you trust, and if you can, with your boyfriend.
