Is it normal to have a conversation with a mental copy of yourself?

Sometimes I'll have a mental conversation with a "copy" of myself and I find that it is usually easier than trying to remember something, since my "Copy" will just tell me anything that I have forgotten that is of any immediate importance. I will also have a debate with myself sometimes if something doesn't make sense we can usually find the best course of action.

Is It Normal?

  • Your situation reminds me of a tulpa. If that's the case for you, it's relatively normal. Usually people will have to work hard to make one, but if it comes naturally to you (and helps you remember things), then all the more power to you.

I tried to create one just a bit ago for the same reason that yours is useful (I don't have a particularly bad memory, but the idea of being able to remember virtually anything by simply asking a figment of one's imagination is intoxicating!) However, I was unable to because I'm not willing to put the time and effort into creating one.

All that being said, I'm not trying to say that's what you have. Only you can really know what's going on since you're the one experiencing it. But maybe it is? You may want to look into it.

  • Oh yeah, I am the same exact way. Why yes, yes you are, now remember to take the trash out, they pick it up tomorrow. Oh yeah, thanks for reminding me.
