Yeah it's normal, my fiancée used to have a bad drug habit, he is also an alcoholic. He was married to a woman with the same habit, they had four kids so he stole to pay for the drugs, went to jail a few times for that. Also he gets agro when pissed so went a few times for fighting. Has done a total of eleven years in prison. While in prison one time the then ex wife skipped out on the kids and they were put in welfare. I met him just before his last stint inside, we got together while he was in there. So far I have managed to get one of his kids out of welfare and is now living with us...we are working on two of the other three as one is happier in foster care and has no wish to leave. My fiancée has got treatment for his alcohol addiction since coming home, he has finally got help with mental health issues he has had all his life and tried but couldn't get help for in prison. He is a wonderful guy who just used to live a not so wonderful lifestyle and is working really hard on never doing another day in jail for the rest of his life. I believe everyone has the choice and the capabilities to change, my guy has certainly changed for the better, mainly due to having the right and consistent support and the correct medical help. It could happen to anyone, don't judge people on their past praise them for their future.
